Two zoos are within a half-hour drive of my house.
This is advantageous because I like animals and I like zoos, but I'm not so overly fond of long car rides. One of the zoos would easily be considered the smaller of the two, and it's the one I usually visit. It's easy to access, parking is plentiful and free, and the route is circuitous so I won't miss anything.
I'm ambivalent about going, but it's a tradition -- the family goes to the zoo every July 4th. I read online about the zoo before we head down.
"Lots of construction," I say. "May be that several animals will be missing."
We get primo parking (right under a shady tree). We get right up to the ticket booth. Something ... anything ... has to go wrong. Turns out only a few of the animals are off display. The zoo is being fixed up, and it is cleaner and has new displays; sooooo worth the trip.
If I could just find a way to include Southwick Zoo on our tour of animals for the membership price I paid, this day would be totally boss. As it is, the day is boss, anyway, and I have the photo proof.
