I am thankful to Hallmark for many things: cards, television specials, movies, a cable channel, and being intelligent enough to license the Peanuts characters during their hey-day. One thing I am most certainly not thankful to Hallmark for is this concept of invented holidays.
Holidays such as Mother's Day.
It's wonderful that Hallmark sells cards for Mother's Day, but it's kind of like they're making money off people simply because they were born. After all, if you haven't been born, you couldn't buy a card for the woman who birthed you because she wouldn't have and you wouldn't be here to worry about it.
But, my hapless friends, May 12th is also LIMERICK DAY. No Hallmark cards for that puppy. In honor of Limerick Day, I offer the following:
Hallmark is such a big store:
Cards stocked from ceiling to floor,
But no holiday
Cares what limericks say
'Cuz they say it five lines, not four.
Happy Mother's Day to moms out there in Blog Land, and Happy Limerick Day to all.
